This project's brief was to create two correlating movie posters based off of a story or novel that hasn't previously been made into a movie. I executed this prompt with the novel Crank by Ellen Hopkins. The story unfolds the life of a troubled young girl coping with her bipolar disorder with drug abuse.
The actual book cover depicts lines of cocaine that spell out "crank." I wanted to push the concept a little further using typography and imagery.
The first piece was an original photograph taken with my DSLR using cornstarch and my nightstand. The second was a stock image found online, photoshopped to make the two feel more like a family. Paired with the ominous typography meant to portray fading in and out of reality - these two posters are strong visual representations of the emotion and darkness behind the struggles of drug abuse.
